Real Direct are a real estate agency who do things a little differently than your normal real estate agency. They therefore needed a real estate web designer who could explain their different offering through their website. We were required to take one of our standard WordPress real estate themes and adjust the homepage layout along with create specific HTML for other pages illustrating their services and products.

Well WordPress 3.0 has been with us now for around 2 months and let me say…..“it’s making our life a whole lot easier”. Why? Because is now means we can have all of our real estate websites powered by one set of plugins installed on one ftp account and one common database. Once it is setup it is saving us hours a week in maintenance time and even new website installations are now a lot more streamlined.
Some Q&A’s in relation to our experiences with WP3.0
- Have we found any bugs with WP3.0? None at all.
- Did we need to modify our real estate plugins for the Multi User section of WP3.0? 90% of the plugins worked with a few plugins we needed to account for the combined database of all sites. Overall, there was only a few days development needed for the adjustments.
- Can each site have their own url? As long as you install WP with the sub-domain for new blogs you can then mask the blog url with any url the client would like to use.
- Are there any SEO disadvantages with domain masking? None at all, as longs as you make sure your sitemaps plugin is a WPMU plugin.
- Is WP3.0 one of the best wp releases? Absolutely, this enables a whole lot more innovation and if you follow this blog you will see some unbelievable innovation appearing in the coming months.

Place Double Bay are one of the leading contemporary real estate agents in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. They attempt to push the envelope in relation to innovation and their energetic approach to the real estate industry. Their brand oozes fun, energy and success and this is betrayed through their web solution.
We’ve used our standard WordPress technology and customised the design slightly. If you look at the team member page you will see they have opted for a tile layout to more easily sort through team members.

While Australia has beautiful real estate websites with excellent functionality we always appear to lag behind countries like US in picking up new technologies in the real estate sector. In particular iPhone applications as I’m yet to see an Australian real estate franchise or office with an iPhone application other than Harcourts.
It can be argued that this application isn’t in fact Australian as I believe it comes from Harcourts head office in New Zealand. Anyway like all great New Zealand things we’ll claim it as Australian. I’ve seen a lot of iPhone application and I must say, this application is quite good. It’s very unique and allows you to locate all properties and agents in Australia and New Zealand. It does the job perfectly and even allows you to save the full contact details for an agent to your phone’s contacts.
Maybe Harcourts with their new website and iPhone application are setting the trend for a new more technological franchise operation. As quite frankly the technology which the majority of major franchise groups in Australia operate with is comical and years out of date.

The long awaited, and I must say a little overdue WordPress 3.0 was released today. It has a bevy of new features – some in particular will cause massive headaches to larger CRM platforms providers.
New features in this release include all new APIs that allow us to implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus, post types, and taxonomies. We also get the merging of MU and WordPress, which for me has always been crazy to be separate. I think the custom post types is the most important new feature as we are developing some sites that rely on this new feature. See below for video.
We must also remember that contributions to make this open source software possible come from around 218 people from many different countries). These are the folks that make WordPress the amazing kit it is and in the words of WordPress’s Matt Mullenburg “whose collaboration and hard work enable us to build something greater than the sum of our parts.”

Richard & Wrench Lindfield, Sydney approached Agentpoint wanting a real estate website built in WordPress allowing them to attempt to replicate the success R&W Mosman were achieving through their blog and weekly newsletter.
The website uses all of Agentpoint’s latest WordPress plugins creating a super WordPress website which provides website users with an abundance of features and widgets. We’ve also implemented our enhanced Subscriptions Manager plugin which allows the client to automatically build their database through the website forms. Property and News alerts are then automatically sent to this database on a daily basis.
